David joined Lindquist & Vennum in 2007 after spending five years in the legal department of Ameriprise Financial, Inc., where he served as vice president and group counsel for regulatory strategy. Before joining Ameriprise, he was a business litigator at two national law firms, focusing on defense of securities class actions, financial services litigation, and other commercial litigation matters.During his tenure at Ameriprise, David also managed the firm’s litigation docket and provided counsel on a wide range of business, regulatory and compliance matters. His experience includes working with business leaders ranging from individual financial advisors to senior executives in the firm’s retail-distribution and product-manufacturing businesses.Examples of his responsibilities at Ameriprise include: Managing virtually all litigation, from individual client litigation and arbitration to class actions and complex commercial cases Managing legal proceedings and investigations with state regulatory agencies and the NASD and SEC Negotiating consent orders, remedial actions, and administrative penalties with regulatory agencies Providing advice to senior management on issues such as broker-dealer and investment-advisory regulatory matters; compliance and supervisionProviding legal direction on significant internal-compliance investigations David’s practical experience gives clients an inside perspective on the ways retail broker-dealers and investment advisors operate in a litigious, heavily regulated environment, and on how litigation and specific regulatory issues affect companies in the financial services industry.
