David Smith serves as Executive Vice President in the firm's Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania office. Mr. Smith is responsible for business development, engagement management, and executive identification and evaluation. Mr. Smith has been a leader in the field of executive search for over 18 years. Prior to joining DHR, Mr. Smith owned and operated a ‘boutique’ search firm specializing in emerging growth, and technology based industries. He has conducted hundreds of successful search engagements for Fortune 50 corporations, start-up and emerging growth firms, and numerous public sector and non-profit organizations. By discipline, Mr. Smith has conducted a full range of assignments encompassing executive management, finance, operations, engineering, sales and marketing, information technology, research and development, and customer service. Prior to entering the executive search field, Mr. Smith was a career Army officer where he served in numerous command and staff leadership positions. He is a decorated combat veteran having served two combat tours in the Republic of Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division and with the United States Army Special Forces Green Berets. Mr. Smith was born and raised in Herkimer, New York, the foothills of the Adirondacks. He studied Liberal Arts at the State University of New York at Brockport and later the University of South Carolina. Mr. Smith is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He has served on the Board of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Red Cross, and the Board of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Heart Association. The Smith’s are members of St. Malachy parish in Kennedy Township where he presently serves as a Lector. He is a past president of Parish Council, a former Co-Chairman for the Reorganization and Revitalization Task Force, and a member of the Pittsburgh Diocese Chapter of Serra International. As a member of Serra, he has served as president and district governor. Mr. Smith also serves as an assistant coach with the girl’s community softball league. Mr. Smith resides with his wife, Carole and their two children Erin and Holly in the western Pittsburgh suburb of Kennedy Township.
