David L. Slate is vice president and deputy general counsel for Con-way Inc. (previously known as CNF Inc.) is a $4.2 billion transportation and logistics company with businesses in less-than-truckload motor carriage, truckload and brokerage services, logistics, warehousing, supply chain management and trailer manufacturing.
Named to his current position in 2006, Mr. Slate serves as the company’s deputy general counsel, specializing in complex and general litigation management, alternative dispute resolution, employment law, and employee benefits law.
Mr. Slate joined the CNF in 1992, and for the period from 1998 through 2005, assumed the additional role of vice president of human resources responsible for executive compensation and ensuring the competitiveness and effectiveness of the company-wide healthcare and retirement strategies and benefits.
Mr. Slate is an attorney with 32 years of experience in labor and employment law and litigation, having served in both the private and public sectors. Prior to joining CNF, he was a partner at Morrison & Foerster in San Francisco, Calif., where he served a diversity of client industries including technology, financial services, transportation, retail and agribusiness. He was also nominated by President Ronald Reagan, confirmed by the U.S. Senate, and served as general counsel for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, DC.
Mr. Slate is a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, and is a member of the Labor Relations Committee of the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Labor Law Advisory Committee of the National Chamber Litigation Center, and the EEO Committee of the Labor and Employment Law Section of the American Bar Association.
Mr. Slate is a native of Paso Robles, CA, he holds a bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University and a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Slate is based at Con-way’s corporate headquarters in San Mateo, CA. |
