David L. Hoppes is senior vice president, ocean services for Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson). In this post, he is responsible for sales, marketing, customer service and pricing for the ocean transportation division of Matson.
His career with Matson began in 1989 and has included positions in both sales and operations. He started with the company as operations manager, Southern California. He became the region's sales manager in 1993 and was promoted to general manager, sales, Mainland, in San Francisco in 1994. Hoppes was appointed vice president, general manager, Matson Logistics Solutions, when the new subsidiary was formed in 1999, and was instrumental in developing the company's full range of services. In the area of supply chain management, he was successful in further building on key customer relationships, such as with Safeway and Kmart. He has also helped Matson further its reputation as a carrier that can handle virtually any type of freight, ranging from entertainment productions such as the "Wheel of Fortune" or special project moves such as observatory mirrors.
In 2002, Hoppes returned to Matson as director, ocean services. He was promoted to vice president in 2003, and in July of 2005, was promoted to his current position as senior vice president, ocean services.
