David J. Kumatz is the senior vice president of legal and insurance services. Kumatz is responsible for contract review, purchase and management of insurance products and services including the workers’ compensation program, and legal advice and opinions to management and associates. Prior to joining Sumner Regional Health Systems, Inc., Kumatz was senior vice president of insurance services for the Tennessee Hospital Association and served for 10 years as vice president and general manager for The Reciprocal Group, a professional liability, workers’ compensation and directors and officers insurance provider. Before working at The Reciprocal Group, Kumatz was assistant commissioner of insurance for the state of Tennessee from 1993 to 1998 and served as general counsel prior to being named commissioner. Kumatz received his bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., and his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1981. He holds the Certified Professional Casualty Underwriter designation and is a licensed insurance agent in Tennessee.
