David E. Sweitzer is a partner of Meyer, Unkovic & Scott LLP and a member of the firm’s Construction Law and Business Litigation Groups. He has represented general contractors, subcontractors, materials suppliers, design professionals and sureties in a variety of disputes on public and private construction projects. He has litigated these cases to verdict in the conventional court setting, as well as binding arbitration.Mr. Sweitzer is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Since 1990, he has been a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Panel of Neutral Arbitrators. In this capacity, he has served as the sole arbitrator and chairman of 3-member panels in several construction disputes. He has also been appointed as a mediator, evaluator and arbitrator for the new ADR program of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.Mr. Sweitzer served as a faculty member for the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry’s Fundamentals of Construction Law Program in Pittsburgh in 2006. In 2005, 2006 and 2007, he was invited to speak at Duquesne University School of Law’s CLE program on Alternative Dispute Resolution.Mr. Sweitzer is the Co-Editor of Construct!, the quarterly newsletter of the Construction Litigation Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation, a position he has held since 1993. Mr. Sweitzer is also a member of the Council of the Allegheny County Bar Association Litigation Section as well as the Construction Law Section Council. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, published by Woodward/White, Inc., for his practice of construction law.In addition to his practice, Mr. Sweitzer has offered his legal talents on a pro bono basis as a volunteer attorney in the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Prisoners’ Rights Program taking two jury trials to verdict. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for St. Anthony Charitable Foundation, an organization which uses inclusive and vocational training to help special needs children learn, grow and succeed. A 1984 graduate of Juniata College, Mr. Sweitzer earned his Juris Doctor in 1987 from the Duquesne University School of Law. While in law school he served as Executive Editor of the Duquesne Law Review. |
