Darin Lee, a principal in the Cambridge office of LECG, specializes in economics of the airline industry, auctions, industrial organization and game theory. Dr. Lee received his PhD in economics from Brown University in 1998, where he specialized in game theory, microeconomics and industrial organization. He also holds an MA in economics from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and a BSc in economics from the University of Victoria, Canada. Dr. Lee has taught microeconomics, game theory, and mathematical economics at Brown University and the University of Colorado in Denver, and is a Sloan Industry Studies affiliate.
Airline Economics
Dr. Lee has extensive experience in analyzing economic issues in the airline industry and has published numerous articles on various aspects of airline economics in journals such as the Journal of Law & Economics, the Review of Industrial Organization, and the Southern Economics Journal. Dr. Lee is also currently editing a book series titled Advances in Airline Economics, to be published by Elsevier beginning in 2006. Dr. Lee has advised numerous major airlines (both domestic and international) on matters such as alleged anti-competitive behavior, route and codesharing applications, mergers, labor disputes, damages and the internet travel industry. Recently, Dr. Lee has been advising several major US carriers on bankruptcy matters. Dr. Lee has also advised the US general accounting office on matters regarding airport access. Dr. Lee has filed expert testimony in US district court and before the US Department of Transportation on matters related to the airline industry, has been frequently quoted in the New York Times, and has appeared on National Public Radio. Dr. Lee has presented his research at numerous conferences and venues, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the International Industrial Organization Conference.
Auctions, Markets & Game Theory
Dr. Lee also specializes in the auctions, markets and game theory. He has served as auction strategist for numerous wireless telecommunication firms during spectrum auctions in the UK, Nigeria, Brazil and Switzerland where he was responsible for rules analysis, development of bidding strategies, and round-by-round analysis of bidding behavior. Dr. Lee has advised government agencies (both domestic and foreign) and wireless firms on various regulatory and legal matters such as efficient auction design, spectrum allocation policy, standards issues, and bankruptcy. Dr. Lee has also provided auction advice to firms in the electricity, airline and diamond industries. Dr. Lee has published articles on auctions and game theory in policy journals such as Telecommunications Policy, as well as leading economic journals such as the Journal of Mathematical Economics and Economics Letters. |
