Dan graduated from Indiana University with a BA in 1974. He entered the contingency recruiting industry in 1976. Between 1976 and 1987, he held several positions with a large Midwestern, multi-office recruiting firm. Those positions involved opening a new office in Cincinnati in 1977 and managing a sixteen desk operation in Indianapolis between 1979 and 1985. His primary specialty is the accounting and finance market.
