Dan Gioia is currently serving as Chair of the Executive Committee of Spangler, Jennings and Dougherty, P.C. and is the immediate past President of the firm. He is available for Family Law and Civil Mediation and has extensive experience representing healthcare providers in medical malpractice lawsuits. Education Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., B.A., 1972 (Magna Cum Laude); American University Law School, J.D. 1975. Professional Experience Admitted to the Indiana Bar, 1975 U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana, 1975 U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana, 1975 President of the Lake County Bar Association, 1990 Member of the Board of Managers of the LCBA, 1986 - 1990 President of the Calumet American Inn of Court, 2002-2003 Member of the Indiana State Bar Association Member, American Trial Lawyers Association. Biographical Description Daniel A. Gioia was born in Bellerose, New York on December 23, 1950. He is an experienced Family Law Mediator and Civil Mediator. Dan has served on the Joint Task Force on Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules, and the Domestic Relations Focus Group for Family Mediation which was responsible for recommending revisions in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Rules and Procedures of the Indiana Supreme Court. Dan has also served as a participant on the Indiana Bar Association Conclave on Legal Education in 1997, 2003 and 2007: an effort which convened the Deans and Faculty of Indiana's law schools; Judges from all levels of the Judiciary; and influential Practitioners and members of the Bar, to study and improve all aspects of legal education for the legal profession. He currently serves on the Adjunct Faculty of Valparaiso University Law School and has taught the course on Medical Malpractice since 1999. He is a regular faculty member for CLE in the area of medical malpractice; and also chaired the Lake County Bar Association's Bio-Ethics Seminar in 2005. Dan has served as President of the Lake County Bar Association in 1990 and served as President of the Calumet American Inn of Court in 2002 and 2003. He served as a member of the Board of Managers of the Lake County Bar Association from 1986 to 1990. He is also a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Dan is a past-president of the Indiana Supreme Court Commission for Continuing Legal Education; having completed two three year terms with the C.L.E. Commission. In 1996, he served as chair of: "Teaching Techniques for the 21st Century", a seminar for C.L.E. providers, sponsored by the Indiana Supreme Court and the Commission for Continuing Legal Education. Dan has also participated annually since 1985 as a guest lecturer in the medico-legal course taught by M.B. Segal, M.D., J.D., for all graduating resident medical students in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago.
