Past experience: I started as part of the Financial Development Program which is a two year rotational program for college graduates in Finance and Accounting. After being in the program and rotating through four different positions within Finance/Accounting, I took a revenue/cost analyst role out in Agoura Hills, California for the Semiconductor Test Division. Four years later, I then took a position in Boston. The role was to produce the external reporting for the company (such as SEC filings which include 10-K annual reports and quarterly earnings press releases). Two years ago my current position as manager of the Financial Planning and Analysis group opened up to me.
Favorite book: I read a wide variety of books so I could never choose a favorite. I love a good story though. One entertaining book I read in the last few months is called "The Life of Pi" by Yann Martel. It's the story of a boy who is stranded on a lifeboat with a Bengal Tiger for 227 days. It's an odd story, but very entertaining.
Interests outside of work: I have a beautiful 6-year old daughter who has had cerebral palsy since birth, so a fair amount of time outside of work is spent supporting her. Beyond that I have very typical interests; I enjoy visiting with family and friends, working in my yard, reading and watching sports. Recently though I've been sucked into a nightly Sudoku puzzle - what can I say - I love to work with numbers.
Education Background: I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Long term goal: To continue to do work that challenges me.
Favorite movie: I love Shawshank Redemption - I never get tired of watching it.
How would you describe your career path to reach your current position? My career path seemed to take a lot of twists and turns to get me to my current position. I always try to stay open to new things and I am willing to take on new challenges. In the past, taking on new challenges has led to paths previously unforeseen.
Why did you choose Teradyne? Coming out of college I knew I wanted to get into a Financial Development Program and Teradyne was one of several companies that offered one. After researching the companies, I applied to several companies but Teradyne was my first choice. I was fascinated by the technology, even though I couldn't fully understand it, and was really impressed by the people I met.
What is most challenging about your job? My group provides a lot of the financial information to the senior executives of Teradyne. It is difficult but critical to accumulate the information and display it in a way that summarizes the issues. On the other hand, you don't want to summarize to such a high level that the information is meaningless. Its a tough balance to achieve.
What do you love about your job or what do you find most rewarding? I love knowing that people are using the information I provide to make major decisions on the direction of the company. The most rewarding part is working with the people in my group to help them grow and develop.
How do you think the people at Teradyne differ from those you might find in other companies? I have only worked with Teradyne throughout my career so I can't say I have a lot of experience on this subject. What I am constantly amazed by the people at Teradyne with their strong sense of business ethics and incredibly high level of intelligence.
Please describe how you view the corporate culture. What do you like most about it? My view of Teradyne's culture is a relaxed working atmosphere with people who have a strong sense of ethics to do the right thing and a commitment to do what is necessary to help the customer (both internal and external customers). |
