Prior to joining Oilsands Quest Inc. in February 2008 Claes Palmgren was Manager Reservoir Process Technology at StatoilHydro Canada Ltd. (formerly North American Oil Sands Corporation) which he joined in 2006. At StatoilHydro Canada Dr. Palmgren was responsible for reservoir process technology resources and initiatives including the company's solvent co-injection pilot program.
From 2000 to 2006 Dr. Palmgren was with Petro-Canada where he had key roles in Gas Over Bitumen hearings the commercialization and start-up of the Mackay River SAGD project and Southern Gas Foothills Development and Exploration. From 2005 onward he led the Joint Venture VAPEX Pilot operated by Petro-Canada at its Dover site. His background also includes reservoir engineering positions at CS Resources (later PanCanadian Resources) working the SAGD Pilot in Senlac Saskatchewan and developing a field pilot program of a thermal solvent in-situ bitumen recovery process. His career in applied research technology pilot program development and field applications of in-situ heavy oil and bitumen recovery technologies spans more than 20 years.
Dr. Palmgren is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geologists of Alberta the Canadian Heavy Oil Association (most recently as Editor of the CHOA Handbook) the Petroleum Society the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers where he is a technical editor to the Reservoir Evaluation and Engineering Journal.
A graduate of Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering Dr. Palmgren received his Masters of Science in 1987 and his Doctorate in 1992. From 1993 to 1995 he was with Institut Français de Pétrole in France where he was involved in research and commercialization of solvent and thermal recovery processes for heavy oil and bitumen. Dr. Palmgren resides in Calgary Alberta. |
