Carol A. Melton is Executive Vice President for Global Public Policy of Time Warner Inc.
Reporting to Chairman and CEO Richard Parsons, Ms. Melton is a member of Time Warner’s senior management team. She is responsible for overseeing all of Time Warner’s domestic and international public policy operations, including offices in Washington, D.C., London, Brussels and Hong Kong. As the company’s chief public policy strategist and advocate, she also works closely with the senior management of the company’s business units on policy issues connected to their work worldwide. Ms. Melton supervises the company’s various trade association relationships, as well as the activities of outside firms representing Time Warner’s government, political and public policy interests.
Before assuming her current position in June 2005, Ms. Melton was Executive Vice President for Government Relations at Viacom Inc., where she served for eight years. A senior member of the company’s management team, Ms. Melton was responsible for overseeing public policy issues worldwide for Viacom and its divisions. She also served as President of Viacom's political action committee.
Ms. Melton’s new position with Time Warner follows 10 years of service with the company earlier in her career. Before joining Viacom in 1997, Ms. Melton served as Vice President for Law and Public Policy for Time Warner Inc., where she was responsible for the development and advocacy of corporate-wide public policy on legislative and regulatory matters. Ms. Melton joined Warner Communications as its Washington Counsel in 1987.
In 1986 and 1987, Ms. Melton served as legal advisor to FCC Chairman Mark Fowler, acting as the Chairman's chief advisor for cable, broadcast and other mass media issues. She also served as Assistant General Counsel for the National Cable & Telecommunications Association from 1983 to 1986. Prior to her work with the NCTA, she was an associate in the communications group of the Washington, D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson, which she joined in 1981.
Ms. Melton is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Federal City Council. She has served previously on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Broadcasters and on the Boards of Trustees of the Media Institute, the Meridian International Center, the Potomac School, the Federal Communications Bar Association Foundation and the Washington Performing Arts Society. Ms. Melton is listed in Who’s Who in America.
Ms. Melton earned a B.A. degree with honors from Wake Forest University, an M.A. in Journalism and Communications from the University of Florida and a J.D. with honors from the Washington College of Law at American University. |
