Practice Focus
Since 1981, Bruce has practiced almost exclusively in the areas of bankruptcy and insolvency. He restructures debt and reorganizes businesses inside and outside of formal bankruptcy proceedings. In bankruptcy cases, he represents business debtors (both individuals and entities); purchasers of assets in transactions with debtors, secured and unsecured creditors; official creditors’ committees; and trustees in bankruptcy (as both general and special counsel). He also mediates disputes arising in connection with debtor-creditor relations. Outside of bankruptcy cases, he represents debtors and creditors in the disposition of assets and collateral, including secured party sales, and represents purchasers of assets from debtors and their secured creditors. He also represents insurance regulators and insurance companies in connection with the rehabilitation and liquidation of insurers.Sample Matters

Honors
Bruce has been named one of the top bankruptcy attorneys in the state and nationally. He was honored in Chambers USA 2007 guide with a Tier 1 ranking as one of the best bankruptcy attorneys in New Hampshire. He has been named in the Best Lawyers in America’s Bankruptcy section for over ten years, and was named a New England Super Lawyer in the area of bankruptcy in 2007.
Memberships and Admissions
Bruce is a member and on the Board of Directors of the American Bankruptcy Institute, and is the Co-Chair of the ABI’s Northeast Bankruptcy Conference. He is also a member of the New Hampshire and American Bar Associations; the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, and the Local Rules Advisory Board for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire. He was the New Hampshire coordinator for the ABA’s project on the adoption of Revised Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code. He served as a member of the New Hampshire Board of Bar Examiners for five years (bankruptcy, secured transactions and debtor-creditor law), and lectures frequently on insolvency and commercial law topics for various continuing legal education providers.
Bruce is admitted to practice in New Hampshire and Illinois and before the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois and the District of New Hampshire; the United States Courts of Appeals for the First and Seventh Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.
Community Involvement
Bruce is a member of the Board of Directors of Heritage United Way, and serves on the Board's Finance and Audit Committees. He has served as a director of numerous other not-for-profit entities, including the New Hampshire Junior Cycling Academy (an affiliate of the United States Cycling Federation), which promotes and develops bicycle racing among junior racers between 12 and 18 years of age.
