Brooke Wunnicke Biography :

Brooke Wunnicke is Of Counsel to Hall & Evans and has been affiliated in that capacity since 1986. She works on special projects, provides consultation services to firm attorneys and other law firms, and serves as an expert witness in several legal areas, including letters of credit, professional ethics and third party opinions. Brooke has extensive experience in trial and appellate practice, general corporate, oil and gas, and real estate law. Brooke has received many awards, honors, and national recognition for her service to the legal profession. She was the 1999 recipient of a national award from the Defense Research Institute, the Louis B. Potter Lifetime Professional Award, and the 1999 Colorado Bar Association Award of Merit, (described as "the highest CBA honor given annually to a CBA member who has made an outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the bar association"). In 2004, Brooke received the Denver Bar Association’s Award of Merit, given annually to one member. The Colorado School of Law honored her as a distinguished alumna in 1986 and 1993, and in 1997 she received the William Lee Knous Award, which the school describes as its "highest award given to an alumnus or alumna." Her other honors include: Honorary Life Fellow, Colorado Bar Foundation; Awards for Outstanding Service, Colorado District Attorney's Council, 1979, 1981, and 1986; Lathrop Trailblazer Award, Colorado Women's Bar Association, 1992; honorary member, Judge William E. Doyle Inn of Court; Eleanor P. Williams Award, Arthritis Foundation, for distinguished legal service in Colorado and Wyoming; Fellow, American Bar Foundation (membership limited to 1/3 of 1% of lawyers in each state); listed in Marquis Who's Who in America; Who's Who in American Law; Who's Who in Business and Industry; Who's Who in American Women; Who's Who in The West; and, Who's Who in the World. Brooke received her Bachelor of Arts, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University in 1939 and Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado School of Law, Order of the Coif, 1946. Brooke was admitted to the Wyoming State Bar in 1946 and is still an active member of that bar. Until 1969 she was engaged in the general practice of law in Cheyenne, Wyoming, including extensive trial and appellate work in the state and federal courts. Since her 1969 admission to the Colorado Bar, she served Of Counsel to a Denver law firm for three years where she engaged in the practice of oil and gas, real estate, and securities law. In 1973, she left the private sector for public law service in Denver as the Chief Appellate Deputy District Attorney until leaving to become Of Counsel to Hall & Evans. Brooke was adjunct professor of law (1978-1997) at the University of Denver College of Law, teaching Oil and Gas Law for 18 years and also teaching Future Interests, Real Property Law, and Law of Western Coal. The College of Law designated her the 1997 Frank H. Ricketson, Jr. Adjunct Professor, the first person to receive this honor. In 2003, Brooke was named DU Law Star and received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. In 2000, she presented to lawyers her Twenty-first IPI CLE-accredited two ethics lectures and for the past several years has served as a faculty member for the annual CLE Inc.-sponsored seminar on ethical issues for the transactional lawyer. Brooke is co-author of Standby and Commercial Letters of Credit (Aspen Pub. 3d ed, 2000) and 2007 Cum. Supp. (Wiley Law 1st ed. 1989; Wiley Law 2d ed. 1996, supplemented annually); Legal Opinion Letters Formbook (Aspen Pub. 2d ed. 2003) and 2007 Cum Supp.) (Wiley Law 1st ed. 1994); UCP 500 and Standby Letters of Credit Special Report (Wiley Law 1994); Corporate Financial Risk Management Practical Techniques of Financial Engineering (John Wiley & Sons 1992); and, author, Ethics Compliance for Business Lawyers (Wiley Law 1987). Brooke is a contributor to Documentary Credits Insight, an international quarterly published by the International Chamber of Commerce, as well as the author of articles for the Defense Research Institute and other professional publications. Brooke is a member of the American Bar Association, and its sections of Business Law (member, Uniform Commercial Code Subcommittee on Letters of Credit and active participant in the redrafting of UCC Article 5, also Legal Opinion Committee) and Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law and Business & Corporate Litigation Committee; Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors 1991-1992), member, CBA Ethics Committee, 1995 to 1999, former member Mineral Law Council and Evidence Code Review Committee; Denver Bar Association (former member, DBA Board of Trustees and Board's Executive Committee); Wyoming State Bar (member in good standing since 1946); and, former president, Laramie County Bar Association, Cheyenne, Wyoming.
