Practice Focus

Brad is head of the firm’s Estate Planning and Probate and Government Relations Practice Groups. He is a past President of the firm and has practiced with Sheehan Phinney since 1973.

He represents many colleges and private secondary schools, religious organizations throughout New England, and hospital, nursing home and other charitable clients. He also represents both for-profit and not-for-profit clients before the New Hampshire Legislature on a regular basis, and practices general corporate law. He writes a regular column, "Cook on Concord," which appears in the New Hampshire Business Review.Sample Matters

Negotiating labor agreements between faculty/staff and university administration of a private university.

Advising clients on complex estate planning matters and the appropriate probate or probate avoidance techniques and trust administration.

Honors

In 2001, Brad was recognized by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce as its Citizen of the Year. That same year, he received the Eugene M. Van Loan III Leadership Award from Easter Seals New Hampshire. In 1980, his contributions to the University of New Hampshire were acknowledged with the UNH Alumni Meritorious Service Award. Brad has also been repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers in America for trusts and estates.

Memberships and Admissions

Brad is admitted to practice law in New Hampshire and before the Federal Courts, and is a member of the New Hampshire and American Bar Associations, the Diocesan Attorneys Association of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Lawyers Association.

Community Involvement

Brad's list of professional and civic involvements is extensive. He currently serves as the secretary of the Board of Trustees of Southern New Hampshire University, as Vice President of the Little Sunapee Protective Association, and as a board member, Secretary and member of the Executive Committee of the Business and Industry Association of New Hampshire (BIA). He is the secretary of the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund, Camp Fatima and Camp Bernadette of the Diocese of Manchester. He was a graduate of the first class of both Leadership Manchester and Leadership New Hampshire and now is a member of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Manchester Steering Committee. He is a member of the boards of directors of Easter Seals New York, an officer of Easter Seals New Hampshire, and Chair of the Board of the Harbor Schools of Massachusetts. He is a member of the state Ballot Law Commission on which he also served in the 1980s. He is also the Co-Chair of the Capitol Campaign Committee for the Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

He is the former president of the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association and the Manchester Bar Association. He has chaired the board of Easter Seals New Hampshire, the Easter Seals Telethon and the UNH Fund. Other previous positions include: secretary of the Manchester Airport Authority, member of the Manchester School Board and chair of its Finance Committee, and chairman of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. He has been involved in political campaigns and is a former board member of the Josiah Bartlett Center for Public Policy. He was elected to serve on the Manchester Charter Commissions in 1996 and 2003. In addition, he was a delegate to the National Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 2003 and 2005.
