Bill has more than 20 years of experience as a controller, administrator and consultant for law firms and professional service firms, bringing a unique combination of skills, experience, and in-depth knowledge of the management of law firms.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron, Bill was a Senior Manager in the Law Firm Services Group of Beers & Cutler, a Washington, DC based CPA firm that provided Business Advisory, Tax and Accounting services to more than 50 law firm clients. Previously, he was the Executive Director of the law firm Freer, McGarry, Bodansky & Rubin, and before that held other financial and management positions with other law firms.
Representative examples of Bill's engagement experience include:
Served as Internal Project Manager for a 13 office, six state law firm on the installation and implementation of the Elite Enterprise time and billing and accounting system. Also provided extended accounting services and consulting advice on a variety of accounting, operational and tax issues.
Provided due diligence services for two firms in merger negotiations. This included financial, operational and tax advice on aspects of the merger. In addition, Bill provided services on integrating the two firm's financial records and billing data. Adjusted processes within the combined firm's accounting system to ensure that the terms of the merger agreement were accounted for accurately.
Worked on several accounting system implementations for law firm clients, as well as internal selection, implementation and management projects, with a variety of software products including Elite Enterprise, CMS, Juris, Peachtree, and Timeslips.
Provided business start-up services for several law firms, including preparation of business plans to secure bank financing, establish business operations, implementing accounting policies and procedures and assisting with Human Resource and benefits administration.
Served as interim CFO and Firm Administrator for several client law firms during periods of transition.
