Bart A. Brown is a seasoned and versatile executive with over 50 years of experience in law, business restructurings, turnarounds and bankruptcy process management. Bart has served as President, CEO and Chairman for a wide variety of both privately and publicly-held companies. He is an expert in leading reorganization plans, creditor negotiations and serving as a Trustee in bankruptcy proceedings.
In a previous role, Bart served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Circle K Corporation, a $3.8B convenience store chain, shortly after its Chapter 11 filing. In this capacity, Bart was responsible for managing the Company's Plan of Reorganization and subsequent sale. Bart restored effective working relationships with Circle K's creditors, negotiated trade credit agreements and employment arrangements, and settled tax claims with the IRS and environmental liabilities with 29 states and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency. Circle K's operations and organization were significantly restructured, which improved operating profits and led to its successful sale and emergence from Chapter 11.
Prior to joining Focus Management Group, Bart served as the Chapter 7 Trustee for the Creditors of FoxMeyer Estates, a $5B pharmaceutical distributor. Bart's responsibilities were to select and work with a law firm to prosecute major litigation claims including a D&O suit and institute appropriate court proceedings, implement a claims process and resolve claims between FoxMeyer and its vendors. Additionally Bart led a review of professional fees and successfully negotiated reductions. Due to Bart's involvement, the FoxMeyer Estates have collected some $349M and all major law suits have been settled. These Estates have recently been concluded, with allowed administrative claims being paid in full and distributions to creditors totaling $300M.
In other senior roles, Bart served as CEO for the largest franchisee of T.G.I. Friday's, a leading industrial manufacturing company and a $550M retail chain. He was also the Founder of his own general practice law firm, where he served as a principal partner.
Bart was awarded his Masters of Law Degree from the Georgetown University School of Law. He earned a Bachelor of Law Degree with Honors, as well as B.S. in Accounting, from the University of Louisville. He is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Kentucky.
