Barry Feinstein founded and is chairman of the board of the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE). The CWE is an educational, training, and job placement organization that is funded by New York City, New York State, and the Federal government.
Mr. Feinstein served as president of the 20,000 member City Employees Union, Local 237, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, in New York City, where he began as a business agent in 1957. He was the first director of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Public Employee Trade Division for the United States and Canada, which organizes public sector workers and supports the union’s public employee locals in the areas of research and contract negotiations. He also served for 25 years as a trustee of the New York City Employees Retirement System. The system is responsible for $30 billion of pension fund assets. He retired from these positions in 1993.
Mr. Feinstein founded and served for 20 years as chairman of the New York State Public Employee conference, a 1.1 million-member legislative lobbying group representing major public employee organizations in the state, until his retirement in 1995. |
