One of Michigan's top attorneys and noted jurist, Barry L. Howard, has joined the firm of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C. Judge Howard plans to concentrate his practice of law on alternative dispute resolution, litigation, administrative law, land use and government relations.During the course of his remarkable career, Judge Howard has been the recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, including his appointment as Chief Judge for Oakland County Circuit Court (1999), being named as "one of the top five most respected judges" in Michigan by WDIV TV4 (1995) and being honored by Western Michigan University with the creation of the Barry L. Howard Medallion Scholarship (1996). In 1996, he was awarded the Police Officers Association of Michigan Distinguished Service Award. Also in that year, he received the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award. Judge Howard has served as a member of the Executive Board of the Michigan Judges Association (since 1989) and was named Board President in 2000 after serving as President-Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and as chairperson of the Legislative Committee.Judge Howard received his Juris Doctor from University of Detroit School of Law in 1973, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Michigan in 1970, graduating with distinction. Judge Howard is a member of the American, Michigan and Oakland County Bar Associations, as well as the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation. He is a former member of the Representative Assembly of the State Bar. He served on the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees, where he also chaired the finance committee. |
