Andrea Ferreira-Gonzalez, Ph.D. is currently a Professor of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University and director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. She completed her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at the George Washington University in Washington DC. At the national level, she served as member of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee (CLIAC) to HHS. She has been involved in the development of clinical guidelines with the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. She currently serves as advisor to the FDA- Molecular Genetics Advisory Panel. Dr Ferreira-Gonzalez was a member of the American Association Clinical Chemistry Task Force on Advisability of Creating a Certifying Examination in Clinical Molecular Diagnostics. She is a member of AACC nominating committee and more recently a member of the organizing committee for the 2006 Annual Meeting Organizing Committee of AACC. She has served in various capacities for the Association for Molecular Pathology. She was a member of the Clinical Practice Committee, chair of the Professional Relations Committee and more recently she was elected AMP president.
Dr. Ferreira-Gonzalez has been recognized both nationally and internationally for her work in the field of molecular diagnostics. She has been invited as a speaker at annual meetings for the Association for Molecular Pathology, College of American Pathologists, Clinical Laboratory Management Association, American Association for Clinical Chemistry, American Society for Clinical Pathology, Mexican Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Argentinean Society of Clinical Biochemistry. More recently she was invited by the Secretary Advisory Committee on Genetics, Health and Society to present on issues of reimbursement for genetic testing as a national expert in the field. Her publication record demonstrates over 60 publications in peer-reviewed literature and she has been sought after to contribute eight chapters to books in clinical molecular analysis. Dr. Ferreira-Gonzalez is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics and the Journal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis and reviews manuscripts as an Ad-Hoc reviewer for over 10 scientific journals including Biotechniques and Clinical Chemistry. |
