Althea A. Schwartz - Principal, Consulting Actuary FSA, MAAA, EA Professional designations Fellow, Society of Actuaries Member, American Academy of Actuaries Enrolled Actuary, ERISA Current responsibility Althea is a principal of Milliman and joined the firm in 1985. She is a consulting actuary and the manager of all pension assignments in the Hartford office.Her responsibilities include managing a staff of 12 professionals who provide actuarial, administrative, and consulting services to over 150 clients throughout New England. She is involved in the design and valuation of defined benefit pension plans, analysis of unique retirement program issues, and coordination of plan administration for clients.Althea has considerable expertise in providing actuarial services to public employee retirement systems. She is the primary actuary for 21 public clients covering 90,000 participants, including the Connecticut State Employees Retirement System and several Connecticut towns. She has also assisted her public sector clients in plan design issues, early retirement incentive programs, union negotiations, and compliance issues. She was recently hired to assist a legislative task force in examining the unfunded liabilities and the financing practices for all municipalities within the State of Connecticut.Experience Prior to joining Milliman, Althea was associated for six years with the Hartford Insurance Group. She had assignments in the pension and employee benefit area, including product development, pricing and profitability analysis, and pricing of group medical insurance.Before pursuing an actuarial career, she was an internal auditor at Valley National Bank & Trust Co. in Phoenix, Arizona.Education BA, Mathematics, Calvin College MA, Mathematics, Arizona State University. |
