Allan, a Richmond native and Richmond High School graduate, earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering in 1962 from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA. Upon graduation, he then returned to Richmond to join the family business, which manufactured the Dunham brand of farm machinery, including tillage tools and front-end loaders. The company also produced equipment for larger farm machinery companies such as International Harvester. He was president and CEO of the firm until its sale to Farmhand, Inc. in 1982. From 1974 to 1999, he was a board member of First National Bank in Richmond, which became Bank One in 1987. He is active on the Wayne County Foundation Board, where he is chairman of the investment committee. He is a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Richmond. Currently, he is a director of Reid Hospital and Health Care Services, where he is beginning his second three-year term. He also serves as a director of the YMCA, and is a trustee of the Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County. In 1979, while still in the farm machinery business, he formed Productivity Corp., which provided contract manufacturing services. In another venture, the company manufactured large outdoor advertising billboards. This division was sold to a partner, who formed Productivity Fabricators and continues this product line here in Richmond. He is also involved various investment projects ranging from "apartments in Texas to submarines in Hawaii". |
