Since December of 2002 Strauss has held the position of Vice President and CTO of NII Holdings, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for the direction and management of the Engineering, Network Operations and Information Technology functions of the company.
It has been in great part his innovative vision that has guided the development and expansion of NII Holdings’ network in Latin America. His leadership has guided the company’s ability to bring the push-to-talk offering to an increasing number of strategic markets throughout the region. Strauss’ strategic direction has ensured efficient and effective operations within the company.
He joined NII Holdings in March 2001 as Vice President of Corporate Engineering and Network Operations. From 1994 to 2001, Strauss held several senior level positions at Nextel Communications including Vice President and General Manager of Nextel Communication's Strategic Business Operations Group - the team within Nextel responsible for the development and ongoing operation of various joint ventures and partnerships between Nextel, and other wireless operators and investors (most notably Nextel Partners) and Vice President of Operations and Engineering for the North Region of Nextel Communications responsible for Nextel's switching and wireless network, from Maine to Virginia and as far West as Ohio and Michigan.
Prior to joining Nextel Communications, Strauss spent 9 years working for MCI Telecommunications in various management roles. He holds a BA from the University of Illinois.
