Alan Hoops is the CEO of CareMore, and former co-founder, president and CEO of PacifiCare Health Systems, an $11 billion health maintenance organization (HMO). PacifiCare was founded in 1977 and today is one of the nation’s leading managed care companies. PacifiCare is currently listed on the Nasdaq under the symbol PHSY. Mr. Hoops joined PacifiCare as one of its first employees in 1977, and later led the rapid expansion of PacifiCare in the 1990s. He assumed the role of president and CEO in 1993 when he replaced his long-time mentor and co-founder Terry Hartshorn.Under Hoops’ direction, PacifiCare grew five-fold to become the nation’s 5th largest managed health care services company serving approximately 4 million members in 9 states and Guam.
