Adel Zakaria is Senior Vice President Worldwide Engineering and Manufacturing Global Agricultural Tractor and Implement Sourcing. He was named to the position in 1995. In this position Zakaria is responsible for leading and directing the Worldwide Engineering and Manufacturing Equipment Division for John Deere's agricultural equipment. This division is responsible for more than half of Deere's worldwide operations.
Zakaria joined Deere & Company in 1976 as a staff engineer. From 1980-1984 he progressed through varying levels of engineering management positions. In 1985 he became Director of Engineering Diesel Engines and developed a worldwide engineering group that adopted a common design across North America and Europe increasing application flexibility and improved value. He was named General Manager of the Waterloo Engine Works in 1987 and positioned the group for growth in OEM engine business. From 1989-1992 he served as General Manager John Deere Waterloo Works and lead the introduction of the company's largest new line of tractors. Under his leadership a total quality management program was also launched. In 1992 Zakaria was appointed Vice President of Agricultural Equipment Division.
Zakaria is a member of SAE International Society of Manufacturing Engineers Manufacturers Alliance Purdue Industrial Engineering and Engineering Education Departments and American Society Manufacturing Engineers. He received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at AIN Shams University (Cairo). In 1970 he received a M.S. industrial engineering from Purdue University and in 1973 a Ph.D. industrial engineering from Purdue. Zakaria is a native of Cairo Egypt.
