The principal activities of the group are classified into three divisions: resources which includes exploration, production and marketing activities for crude oil, bitumen, natural gas, natural gas liquids and sulphur in the foothills area of alberta, and an in-situ oil sands project in peace river, alberta; oil products includes manufacturing, distribution and sales of refined petroleum products across Canada. Refineries in montreal, quebec, sarnia, ontario, and fort saskatchewan, alberta convert crude oil into gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuels, solvents, lubricants, asphalt and heavy fuel oils; and corporate and other which includes controllership, financing, administration and general corporate facility management, and also oil sands, a joint venture agreement in which the group holds 60% interest in the athabasca oil sands project in northern alberta. Oil products accounted for 81% of 2001 revenues and resources, 19%.
