The group's principal activities are to develop and commercialize natural products from microalgae using the large-scale photobioreactor technology known as mera growth module (mgm). The group uses its photobioreactor technology in the production and marketing of its first commercial product, astafactor(R), a nutraceutical and source of natural astaxanthin. The microalgae are a group of over 30,000 species of microscopic plants that have a wide range of physiological and biochemical characteristics. The microalgae are known to contain valuable substances that have existing and potential commercial applications in fields such as animal and human nutrition, food colorings, cosmetics, diagnostic products, pharmaceuticals, research grade chemicals, pigments and dyes. The group operates only in the United States.
