The group's principal activity is to publish daily and non-daily newspapers. The newspapers of the group focus on the coverage of local news and local sports and offer compelling graphic design in colorful, reader-friendly packages. The group currently owns and operates 23 daily newspapers and 236 non-daily publications in six geographic areas: greater philadelphia, Connecticut, greater cleveland, central new England and the capital-saratoga and mid-hudson regions of New York. It also operates 152 Web sites, which represent each of the group's publications. The group also owns four commercial printing operations that complement and enhance its publishing operations. On 04- apr-2004 the group acquired mohawk valley media. On 13-Aug-2004 the group acquired 21st century newspapers inc.
