The group's principal activity is to operate membership warehouses. These warehouses offer members very low prices on a limited selection of nationally branded and selected private label products in a wide range of merchandise categories in no-frills, self service warehouse facilities. The group's warehouses generally operate on a seven-day, 68-hour week and are open longer during the holiday season. As on 31-Aug-2003, the group operated 397 warehouse clubs: 309 in the United States; 61 in Canada; 15 in the United Kingdom; five in Korea; three in Taiwan and four in Japan.
