The group's principal activity is to develop commercial applications for the one atmosphere uniform glow discharge plasma, a process of non-thermal, atmospheric pressure processing for use in areas such as sterilization, decontamination, surface cleaning and etching. The group's technology is a simple, lower cost plasma generation technique. Atmospheric plasma is created by electrically energizing air at standard atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature generating highly reactive, short lived chemistry that can be used in a variety of commercial applications.
