The group's principal activity is to provide financial products and services. The group operates in three segments namely: property and casualty, allmerica financial services and asset management. The property and casualty segment manages property and casualty operations through two lines of business based upon product and identified as personal lines and commercial lines. The allmerica financial services segment manages a block of existing variable annuity, variable universal life and traditional life insurance products, as well as certain group retirement products. The asset management segment provides investment advisory services, primarily to affiliates and to third parties, such as insurance companies' retirement plans and other fixed income clients, through its subsidiary, opus investment management, inc., a registered investment advisor.
