The group's principal activities are to market crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products, transport liquid chemicals and explore and produce oil and gas. Each activity is undertaken by a subsidiary of the group. The subsidiary, gulfmark energy inc, purchases crude oil and arranges transportation to refiners and other customers. Adams resources marketing ltd operates as a wholesale purchaser, distributor and marketer of natural gas. Service transport company, transports liquid chemicals on a 'for hire' basis throughout the continental United States and Canada. Transportation service is provided to over 400 customers under contracts and on a call and demand basis. Another subsidiary, adams resources exploration corporation, explores and develops domestic oil and gas properties primarily in the state of Texas. During the year the group discontinued its new England region retail natural gas marketing business.
