Mr. Battaglia provided seed capital and founded HealthEquity, a Consumer Driven Healthcare company and the largest non-bank trustee of Health Savings Accounts in the United States. As CFO and a member of the Board of Directors, Mr. Battaglia was instrumental in creating and executing on the business plan as well as raising capital to fund HealthEquity’s aggressive growth. Prior to his departure, HealthEquity received a substantial direct investment from Berkley Capital, the private equity investment arm of WR Berkley Corp (NYSE: BER).Prior to HealthEquity, Mr. Battaglia was managing director at Leucadia National Corp. (NYSE: LUK), a financial services holding company. In 2001 and 2002, Mr. Battaglia assisted Berkadia with the reorganization of Finova, an $11 billion commercial lender. Berkadia is a joint venture between Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK.A) and Leucadia.At Leucadia, Mr. Battaglia advised the Chairman and the President on acquisitions, divestitures, and management of portfolio assets in North America, Europe, Russia, SE Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He was involved in transactions totaling billions of dollars in assets in insurance, real estate, oil & gas, leveraged finance products, information technology, and real estate. He oversaw $200 million in Leucadia’s investments in equity and bond funds overseas and an equity investment in an $800 million collateralized bond obligation (highly leveraged, junk-bond vehicle). Annualized returns on investments he was directly responsible for exceeded 50%.Mr. Battaglia provided financial oversight to HomeFed Corp., a $450-million, real-estate, Leucadia subsidiary, and optimized the buildout timing of a $1.6-billion residential development in Southern California. He valued HomeFed in connection with its sale.Mr. Battaglia received a Master of Business Administration degree, in finance and strategy, and a bachelor's degree in international relations, cum laude, from Brigham Young University, where he was designated a Cook International Scholar and a Hawes Scholar. |
